How many beautiful nature pictures have we all seen with little or none of the sky-scape? You may think of the sky as only some unavoidable background for most of your nature photo subject matter, and the more blue it is, the better. Well guess what? Mother Nature has a treasure trove of eye catching possibilities up, overhead if you only take the time to have a look and know what to look for.

Lets start with the basics. Obviously, a beautiful clear, deep blue sky makes for a good backdrop for many subjects but can be rather dull by itself, as can a completely gray overcast sky. Now start adding fluffy white cumulus clouds and it starts getting more interesting, but it is only the beginning of the many opportunities the sky can provide for unique and pleasing photos.

Take fair weather cirrus and stratus clouds for instance. Their thinner and more spread out nature can provide a completely different look for your photo. Even at mid-day the sky can be gorgeous. For example an approaching thundershower can be striking with the billowing and ever changing shapes and textures, and bright white color as it approaches. It is like a mountain-canyon vista in the sky, and is easily captured compared to other faster moving, unpredictable subject matter. And you will have no problem capturing multiple, unique shots of the storm before it moves off or overhead because of its continual morphing of shapes and colors. Also some clear skies around the storm can add to its magnificence and enhance your image.

Taking pictures in the dark has to be one of the most challenging things a photographer can do. To produce photographs you need a very important component and that is light and the problem with the dark, is that there is very little of it.

This gives photographers a serious conundrum to get their head around. However, they where more than up to the task and the development of the camera over time included more settings that help to compensate the lack of light when it came to taking photos in the night.

These settings in the camera included the development of the built in flash, using a wider aperture or a slower shutter speed. These settings helped to increase the amount of light coming into the camera in low light conditions. However, even though they increase the amount of light they had their limitations. These limitations could be seen in the images produced with these settings that include photographs with uneven illumination and grainy photos.

However, the great photographic pioneers were not to be beaten by such limitations. These were mere challenges that motivated them to tame the demons of night photography. Over time tricks and techniques have been developed to produce more effective ways of capturing the wonderful pictures at night. Mistake #1: Letting your subjects wear what they want

During the photo-taking session, if you give too much freedom to your subject that she can dress whatever she wants – it would probably spoil the quality of the picture if the attire does not match the whole set up including the backdrop and theme setting. Most occurred problems are when subjects wear non-solid colored clothes in outdoor photo shootings. This actually cause your subjects looked less prominent in pictures as they are overshadowed by the distracting background.

Move your subject away from the middle of the picture. A great tip that the professionals use is to imagine a nine square grid on your viewfinder and move the main focus of your images to cross one of the intersections of this grid. This will really bring your picture to life but remember that most cameras will focus on whatever is at the center of the image so lock the focus on the main subject before you re-frame it.

· Just because you are outside and the sun is shining that does not mean that you don’t need to use a flash. If the sun is behind or above your subject it will cast shadows so using a bit of fill light from your flash will help to brighten these up.

· You may find yourself somewhere wonderful on holiday surrounded by fabulous scenery and be tempted to keep snapping away to capture the landscape, however when you get home you may be disappointed as those beautiful rolling hills just don’t look as good as they did when you were there. A good tip is to include people in your photographs as not only will they add interest but they will also add scale. Adding a person or something of know scale such as a car will help to indicate the sheer size of the surrounding area.

You might have the digital camera because that is the most feasible option these days, but somehow, you might feel that your pictures lack something. To make your pictures impressive and more enhanced, there are a few things you need to do in order to make everyone go ’wow’ at them!

The first thing that you need to consider is the light. Without proper light, a good picture might look haphazard and poorly photographed. To get a good lighting effect, a good idea is to shoot outdoors. It is better to shoot in the morning hours and late afternoon. However, when you shoot, make sure that you are not just standing right under the sun, because this will give your photos a washed-out look. Plus, you will not be able to open your eyes wide while shooting pictures because the sun does not seem to be very kind to your eyes! Instead, shoot at some shady areas. This will help you give a shot that appears bright, but not washed-out.

The red eye effect can also be a bad mark on all your good snapshots. Many a times when you are shooting in slightly dark areas, the flashlight of the camera might fall on the lens of the eye. This will produce a red eye effect. To avoid this, many cameras have the red eye reduction feature. Other than that, you can also avoid using the flashlight wherever possible. If you cannot do that, you may ask the person to look elsewhere and not directly on the camera lens.
