Many people love taking pictures and sometimes they are able to get a moving object to stay still on a photograph, but it is not always easy. Some have a natural talent for the amazing while others just like to take a picture of a moment in time for reference. Many admire the amazing eye those in the photography business have. They are able to see a glimpse of beauty in all objects that they are trying to capture on a two dimensional portrait. Many people love taking pictures and sometimes they are able to get a moving object to stay still on a photograph, but it is not always easy. Some have a natural talent for the amazing while others just like to take a picture of a moment in time for reference. It takes a lot of practice and sometimes film in order to get the desired picture from your in motion or motionless object.

While there are many reasons to take a photograph, some use their photographs in order to get portraits from photo for those who request them. At times it is very difficult for a person to sit enough for the artist to create custom portraits of them. Not all portraits are easy to create due to the subject. So when artists are asked to create dog portraits or other animal portraits the artist might want to request a photo of the subject. With some artist, you will find that they can take that photo and be creative with it. This will prevent having to keep the subject still long enough to create the drawing or trying to wait until your pet pose the way you want them to. There are many people who adore their pets and want to have something to display showing everyone how much they love their pets. So people will request their pets portraits to be created. Having portraits pets done for a person might make some people talk, but it do not matter to the owner. Their pet is sometimes as important as the other people that are in their household.

People are tired of just seeing the customary staircase shot with the parents and kids looking at the camera repeating the dreaded ’cheese’. They are all starting to look the same and many seem to have the same pull down backdrop.

Over the last ten years or so there has been a creative revolution in photography brought to by the invention and sale of the digital camera to the masses. In 2007 some 50 billion images were taken compared to a few million ten years previously. Please do not go into Wedding Photography if you don’t enjoy weddings. You’ll need to handle pressure and always remember that you only get one chance at weddings. You cannot afford to mess it up. Working to tight schedule and having good social skills is very important as well.

2. Check Your Gear
Before you leave your home or studio to go to the wedding, check & re-check you camera gear, make sure all the camera batteries are fully charged and the flash gun batteries as well if you are using re-chargeable. I personally prefer re-chargeable batteries for my Nikon SB900 flashguns.

3. Have back-ups
Never go to photograph a wedding with just a single camera body and a lens. You should have at least 2 bodies. Try and shoot with the same bodies. Don’t have a pro body worth $3000 and a back-up as a $400 body. You need to have a like-for-like back up body. I photograph with 2 bodies and have a 3rd one as a back-up. Have a variety of lenses from wide angles, zooms and fast prime lenses. The ones I’d recommend for shooting a wedding with are:

Think it Through

If you’re planning on getting a bunch of people together for a photograph, you’d better make sure you’ve considered every possible element of the shoot before your subjects show up. Always have two locations in mind- one primary location and a back up in case something goes wrong. One outdoor location and one indoor location will work well for this purpose. Make sure that your subjects know what time you need them there and always have them come a 5-10 minutes early to keep things on schedule. Always make sure your camera equipment is ready to go before anyone shows up as this will make your job a whole lot easier. If you have any clothing requests, make them early and remind everyone at least once.

Play it Safe

Shoot as many photographs as your allotted time will allow. By taking a lot of photographs this will protect you from having to schedule a re-shoot and will also give your group plenty of options for choosing the best picture. Use a tripod to help make it easier to shoot multiples times without any movement and, if available, use a light reflector or studio light to soften any shadows on your subjects. Flattering pictures will pass muster more quickly than shots where subjects don’t feel they look great, so try to get this done in-camera as opposed to in the darkroom.
